Wolf River Center History
August 18, 2005
At its inception, the Wolf River Center established an affiliation with the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center as a means to deliver key programs and services that had not been available in the region. The School Improvement Consortium (SIS) and the Technology Media Center (TMC) were the first two Greenbush programs made available to Wolf River Schools. By incorporating SIS and TMC into a Wolf River membership fee, schools could immediately receive services, training, and instructional media without investing start-up funds, or duplicating an established distribution system. In addition, expansion of these consortia allowed Greenbush to employ a professional development coordinator serving to provide additional human resources for the Wolf River Center and keeping administrative overhead to a minimum. For Greenbush, the expansion of these consortia to include Wolf River schools provided fiscal resources to increase the availability of training, upgrade media, and extend services without increasing costs to all member school districts.
The number and breadth of Greenbush services have grown across the region in response to the interest and needs of school districts. Wolf River schools have participated in a number of based Greenbush consortia, such as the Title II High Quality Teacher Consortium, and have utilized the Greenbush infrastructure to develop new programs and services based on specific needs. The establishment of a Wolf Fiver Distance Learning Network and the Science Consortium are examples of new programs that have been developed utilizing Greenbush staff and resources.
